(Elementary and Young Adult Levels met in a "one room schoolhouse" for our last day, as a combined class.)

Thank you everyone for a great year!

Here are some samples from Italian, German and "Slavic" Romanticism. As a wrap-up homework, I'd suggest choosing one of these pieces and comparing it to, say, Night on Bald Mountain as a Russian example. What is similar and different?

Remember over the summer to take advantage of the listening lists posted here!

Best,
Mr. Johnson

Italian Romantic Opera, the early "bel canto" style:
From the Barber of Seville by Rossini
  • Una Voce Poco Fa
  • Figaro's Entrance Aria

Slavic Romanticism:
  • Liszt Hungarian Rhapsody #2 (and in the famous Bugs Bunny cartoon:)
  • Dvorak's "New World" Symphony - Finale

The Continuation of German Romanticism after Beethoven:
  • Schubert's Unfinished Symphony
